Models and Photographers

As an aspiring talent in the entertainment industry I'd like to shed light on an ongoing issue. There are many people out there scamming talents, gyping talents and worse. I think it is horrifying when another talent cheats another talent. It happens daily and has happened even to me. I noticed that when I am pursuing my modeling career and working with photographers they all aren't professional and some of them can't pay you how they say they will. Plenty times I agree to do the job for a copy of my images because I like to have them for my portfolio. It's sad that most photographers seek recognition for taking a models photo but they often times don't want to share the image with the talent even when that is the agreement. I have noticed that when I get paid in cash there is no question of me getting a copy of the image because I have been paid for it.
The dilemma at that point seems to be what to do now? You've been cheated out of your photos, and have lost valuable time. You don't want to sue them and hopefully you did not sign a model release form before the images were handed to you...If so your hands are tied.
There are ways around this issue because of the model release form gives them permission to use your images PUBLICLY. Therefore if a photographer or a group doesn't have a copy of it or you fell out because of the images they can get in trouble for using that image of you because you never approved it and now you the model has to go to court and sue them for your share of the money.
It's unfortunate that this happens to models especially when these photographers act like they have your best interest at heart when they don't.What do you do if they just cheated you out of your images and you did not sign a form.
Simply walk away, avoid future workings with that individual, and in the event that you should cross paths with them through another group of people or maybe through another photographer, play it cool and with good timing inform the group of people that you have had a bad run in with that photographer and you would appreciate it if he did not shoot you. Find out before the actual event takes place if they need two photographers if it is a must then make sure you have a photographer you know and trust handy so you can present them before the time of the event.
It's all about being smart... Models and aspiring talents maybe consider creating your own black list of people to avoid and of photographers who keep the best images for themselves while giving you crap.
Oh and people always remember that CHEATERS NEVER PROSPER any more than they truly win.
