I'm glad to live in a city where the politicians care so much about its peoples diet and obesity rates. I would care and appreciate it twice as much if I felt it were true. I know for a fact that the removal of over sized beverages is not at all about the person and all about the businesses.
Bloomberg even admitted that he is not telling people what to buy, but restricting stores the right to sell over sized, unhealthy beverages. In a way it seems as though this process is an attempt to over shadow what is really going on.
I agree that the ban is about bussinesses and what they shouldn't be selling opposed to what people can buy or the better interest of the health of the public.
My biggest quarrell with this silly ban is that there are other oversized beverages being sold that contribute to obesity and cause more harm than just obesity; hard alcohol and Beer products which we can still go buy 40 oz of; sometimes we can buy more than 40 oz of this product but they are still for sale!! I guess NYC mayorals office supports liver damage and kidney malfunction as long as we are not obese!!!
I also want to highlight that the packages are getting smaller but most of the time people are paying the same price for less. Remember just a few years back the packages of chips and sugary cereals were reduced in size but the prices remained the same.
Now the big gulp is being removed leaving people to buy twice as much and room for inflation on the drinks that are available.
They don't care about the diets or obesity of the people its all a strategic financial move and most of you all are blind to it.
As a matter of fact I think the mayors office should be focusing on more detrimental issues like lack of supplies, broken down equiptment and over crowding in our city schools opposed to what people are drinking. I guess that's what happens when someone is Mayor too long they go from democratic practices to that of a totalitarian approach. Next thing we know there will be a limit to how many children New Yorkers can have.
