Questions Warranting A Yes or No Response

I am usually a straight to the point kind of person and when I ask people questions they typically are geared for a yes or no response. I am finding that too many people can't or won't respond with a simple yes or a simple no.

I credit this behavior to their need to feel important, recognized and because they need attention that they are not getting else where. You can always assess when a person needs attention or seeks your specific attention by the way they are answering your questions.

For example, I asked about a specific area being opened in a facility and the worker responding refused to simply say yes on no.

Here's what actually happen:

I am leaving the place and need to reconviene with a staff from a department that is for STAFF ONLY...
Unfortunately the worker in the department I was headed to was preoccupied with some seminar. Since I had to leave and did not want to return on a day that area was closed I dare asked security if the department on the 6th floor would be open the next day.

This individual responds by telling me the schedule of similar departments and what floor they are located on.
I say to this person "Yes, I am aware of that but I am asking specifically about the 6th floor department.. is it open tomorrow?"

They immediately say that department is off limits and I am telling you what is available.

I respond with I UNDERSTAND what you are saying but you ARE NOT ANSWERING my QUESTION about the 6th floor department.

The person starts saying I don't want  to hear what they are telling me but mind you that they are giving me information that 1) I already know and 2) did not ask for.... hmmmm?

Thankfully an educated person walks by and says: Yes it's open. While over hearing me inform security that the question I am asking warrants a simple yes or no response.

Weird moment... Only because that person needed to feel important.

What I have learned from this experience 1) to simply walk away from people who are not answering my questions accurately and 2) I no longer ask the security  of that facility questions  3) I have learned that despite how old that security guard is he is very unprofessional and now gossips about me to the other staff, students and personnel of the facility ...

Great!!! What a PROFESSIONAL way to behave!

I just Gotta love being me!
