Poetry in Motion

The on going posters with poems that filled the train carts from the early 90's until 2008 are finally returning. MTA reintroduced Poetry in Motion in early 2012. They are not taking submissions in the usual fashion; either way I'm sure one of my poems will be selected eventually. For poets interested in the selection process follow this link  http://www.mta.info/mta/aft/poetry/

In the mean time I'd like to share a poem from a book of collections with short stories and poems that I'm working on and soon will be publishing.
(I will post another blog when we get closer to the release date)

A Face in the Crowd

Me, I’m pretty cool.

A natural at the things I do,

Top notch, fine, and classy,
Everywhere I go there's someone trying to sass me.

I stay focused and undistracted.

I handle my business,
while minding my business.

I'm focused on nothing but my future success and it's not to impress,
I could do that simply with the way I dress.

When I’m in the street I might hear a wise crack or two,
But see me, I never blow my cool.

What else is there for me to do?
Defend my honor to someone who doesn’t even know me?
Oh please, I’ll over look it because I know these people don't view me properly

They can't see where I’m going or the places I want to be.
Hoping to keep me shackled and chained, by a mentality that was built to cause strain.
Secretly they hope to hold the keys to set me free.

So, you see whenever I hear a wise crack or two
Me, I keep my cool
I don't get mad, yell or shout
It doesn't make me pout, and I don't get loud
I gracefully move on because I know that to them I’m just another face in the crowd.

Written and performed by yours truly, Sarah V. Tores aka Saveto
