Smart Models Have a Team

You learn as you go in this industry. Unfortunately some of those lessons come from very bad run-ins with other models, poorly organized events and even unprofessional photgraphers.

One of the lessons I have learned is not to be too eager to shoot with everybody and even though most aspiring models are trying to make a name for theirselves always keep in mind that you don't have to shoot with every photographer who approaches you.

Not to mention many photographers are aspiring as well unless they are employed by a magazine like Vibe or Maxim or even a big named network. Usually aspiring models won't work with these photographers unless a company schedule's the session.

Some photographers like to take photos and submit them to magazine, submissions to a magazine and working for the magazine are two entirely different things. Fellow models avoid the submitters unless you like the photographer, know the photographer and are confident that you will gain something worth value to you from the session.

There are too many dangers for young models and often times these photographers act like they are big time when in all actuality they are not and can't help you or won't help you. I have experienced photographers who take  hundreds of photos of me but give me trash and keep the best for theirself.

STOP: ONLY A VERY UNPROFFESSIONAL AND SELFISH PHOTOGRAPHER WILL DO THIS.

Here is WHY => A professional photographer knows that the images he shares with you, the model also markets HIS WORK TOO. So if you are experiencing a shoot where you got crappy photos and you visit a photographers mayhem or Fb and see great photo's of yourself that you don't have a copy of nor received credit for #1 that photographer is unprofessional and #2 they don't work well in or on a team because a model photographer relationship is really about teamwork.

What every model should do is have a select pool of photographers to deal with who will give you quality photos, who you can work with continuosly until you begin landing contracts with companies and such through the portfolio you build with them.

In other develop a team of photographers who you know have your best interest in mind. Even if they provide you with a different set of photos from the ones they choose to keep it is okay as long as you the model have images that are good quality and generate work for you.

Also learn what you can about how a model release works... If you didn't sign one then they should not be publishing any of your images with out #1 giving you credit or #2 getting your consent.

Two of the photographers on my team is Ron Betrone and Derrel Anthony because they are great photographers, very professional and they have shared images with me that are of great quality and generate work for me. I am willing to build my team further but it takes time and I am in no rush.
